Shiatsu treatment

Shiatsu means finger pressure. It is a form of pressure therapy that originated in Japan. Shiatsu is typically performed on a futon, a thin mattress on the floor, on which the client (usually) lies or sits. The therapist often works on their knees, but also from a sitting or standing position.

During a shiatsu treatment, the body’s energy balance is regulated by applying pressure to the meridians (energy pathways) using the palms and fingers, and in some cases, the elbows, knees, or feet. The meridians are connected to the organs, emotions, and senses.

Shiatsu is incredibly beneficial for reconnecting with your body and your essence. It helps you learn to feel, to dare to listen to your body, and to trust your intuition. This is something we sometimes forget as we go through life, due to external pressures. However, if you dare to let go of what no longer serves you and say yes to what truly feels right for you, you will notice that you can relax more and feel better in your own skin. Being non-judgmental toward yourself and allowing yourself rest, relaxation, and pleasure brings peace and space. Developing yourself, being who you want to be, and doing what you love ultimately brings fulfillment and confirmation.

A Shiatsu treatment can have a healing and relaxing effect because it helps to ground the body, create (or regain) space within the body, experience calmness, and reduce or eliminate energetic blockages at a physical and/or mental-emotional level. This can often be experienced during the treatment as a very freeing and relieving sensation.

A Shiatsu treatment is often accompanied by sensations in the body, such as warmth or cold, tingling, the presence or absence of energy, space, tension, or emotions that are either stuck or released.
